The ‘Our Garden’ Story
I am pleased to present to you on behalf of Murrumbidgee Country Quilters Inc. our completed quilt, “Our Garden”, stitched by our members with great pride for the QuiltNSW Sydney Quilt Exhibition 2025 raffle quilt.
The design of the quilt, titled “Our Garden” was inspired and designed to showcase Griffith’s Annual Garden Festival, known as “Griffith Spring Fest”. In addition to the celebration of our Garden Festival the design also represents the diverse range of produce grown in our local area. Eighty percent of the fabric was hand dyed by our members. The colours in the quilt represent our landscape and the agricultural crops within our local farming region. The quilt has been pieced together and flowers handmade and stitched onto the background by our members, drawing on their individual expertise in the process.
The choice of an indigenous print as our backing fabric is to acknowledge the Wiradjuri people as traditional custodians of the land on which we meet and to pay respect to their Elders both past and present.
