Danuta Aaron: fan quilt

Danuta was the first QuiltNSW member to send me photos of her recent quilts and I‘m pleased to share them here on our blog.

She said, “I was recently asked by a friend to make her a king size bed quilt, all in purple tones, for her art deco themed home. The fabrics were chosen by my friend. It is the biggest quilt I’ve ever made, measuring 2.5 metres each side.” For those of us who think in inches, that’s 98 inches!

Danuta designed the quilt to showcase fans and planned the angles of the fans to suit the size of her friend’s bed.

After her friend asked her how long it would take to make, Danuta recorded all the time she spent cutting, piecing and hand stitching the binding. She was amazed it took her 91 hours. “I was surprised how long it takes to make a quilt,” she says. It was professionally quilted by Rebecca Rae.

I’ll feature Danuta’s other quilt in a future post so we can all enjoy seeing it, too. If you have made a quilt and would like to share it with other QuiltNSW members, please email me!
