2019 Suitcase Challenge  – From These Curtains

This year the suitcase challenge is a fabric challenge and the fabric is surplus fabric from curtains which previously hung at Government House, Sydney.

We invite members to drop into the office or send in a self addressed stamped envelope ($2) and the volunteers will record your email address so we can keep in touch with our challenge participants.  We have pre- cut pieces of fabric ready to send to you.
Please read conditions of entry and when complete submit an online entry form.

A couple of key points to remember

  • the size is to be 40cm x 40cm
  • the little quilt needs to have a hanging sleeve.

Some inspiring Government House facts which may spark inspiration.

It was completed in 1847 and was designed in romantic ‘Gothic revival’ style. Castellated, crenellated and Turreted its foyer houses oil portraits and coats of arms of all its successive occupants.
Near the house (on its south-east side) is a giant Moreton Bay fig (Ficus macrophylla), planted soon after the house’s construction was completed. This tree is the surviving one of a former pair which stood either side of the terrace. The formal grounds of sweeping annual displays, manicured lawns, exotic trees and shrubs as well as the carriageways, paths and terraces provide a strong link with Sydney’s colonial & Victorian heritage.
