2023 Challenges

In 2023, there are two exciting challenge opportunities for members:

  • Song Title: the 2022 touring suitcase exhibition (40x40cm). Closing 6 October.
  • Postcard Challenge: 10x15cm with summertime/holiday theme. Closing 18 August

2023 Suitcase Challenge: Song Title

Do you have a favourite song? Is there one that inspires you to create a challenge quilt? It’s time to go through your catalogue of memories, sing some tunes and start thinking about your entry for the 2023 Suitcase Challenge. The theme is Song Title.

The conditions of entry will be released in early 2023 but for now you should know that quilts are to be the standard challenge size of 40cm x 40cm and should be made of three layers. Entries will close on Friday 6 October.  The quilts will be judged, and awards announced at the Annual General Meeting in November.

President’s Postcard Challenge: Summertime/Holiday

New for 2023 is a postcard quilt challenge!  The challenge is to make a quilt the size of a postcard that responds to the theme of Summertime / Holiday. Your quilt should be 10cm x 15cm. You can use any technique or medium.

Like all postcards, your quilt should have two sides to its design. The front features your summertime or holiday scene.  The back must have an area to write a name and address and space for postage stamps.  There must be a middle layer because it is a quilt – you could use stiffening, wadding or vilene – so your postcard could be stiff or soft.  The back could be fabric or card (manilla folder works well, so does scrapbooking paper).  It can be bound, bagged, raw edge zig zagged, blanket stitched or finished however you choose. Please write your name on the back and affix some postage stamps.  Your quilt will be posted back to you.

Entries will close on 18 August 2023. Postcard challenge quilts will be judged, and all quilts will be exhibited at the 2023 Exhibition in September.

More information including conditions of entry and entry forms will follow in early 2023. Look for inspiration and start planning as you holiday this summer!
