JEP Participant Profiles

Brief profiles of the QuiltNSW Judging Education Program participants are set out below. Actual judging services are provided by individual JEP participants in their personal capacity and not as a representatives of QuiltNSW.

Jenny Bacon

Jenny Bacon

Jenny has been involved in making patchwork since 1972, and makes both traditional and art quilts. Her favourite techniques include hand quilting and needleturn applique. A certified judge with the Quilters Guild of the British Isles, Jenny has extensive judging experience in Australia and internationally. Jenny also curates a biennial art quilt show for her local gallery.

Cathy Jack CouplandCathy Jack Coupland

Cathy is an exhibiting artist, valuer and accredited teacher. She teaches colour with the Embroiderers Guild of NSW and her style of free machine embroidery across Australia. Her judging experience includes the Sydney Quilt Show 2015 and Sydney Royal Easter Shows 2013 and 2014.

Amanda DalyAmanda Daly

Amanda’s brings over 30 years experience of both traditional and contemporary quilting styles. She is an accredited teacher of special techniques and QuiltNSW Teacher Accreditation Coordinator. Her quilts have been extensively exhibited and published and have won multiple awards. Her years of judging experience includes many State Guilds (NSW, WA.,Victoria and NT) and local quilt shows.

Kathy has been designing quilts and working full time in the patchwork industry since 2003. She regularly lectures and teaches around the world with a focus on contemporary use of colour and style. In addition, she has written five best selling books and designed several fabric ranges. The JEPP program has helped to formalise her extensive quilt reviewing experience.

Jan, a former visual arts teacher, has been a professional longarm quilter since 2003. She uses both hand-guided and computerised quilting machines and provides tuition in machine quilting techniques. She has judged local and regional quilt shows.

jepp-pamPam Furniss

Pam is a quilt designer, maker and tutor specialising in hand appliqué and quilt-as-you-go techniques. She teaches throughout Australia and overseas.

 

jepp-lynnLynn Hewitt

In 1999, Lynn was elected President of the Quilters’ Guild of NSW and she began judging quilt shows in country NSW. Since then she has judged 27 quilt shows, including major shows in Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane and Darwin. She teaches regular classes in Sydney and workshops around NSW.

Chris’s judging experience includes: Co-judge of the 2013 Eastwood Quilt Show, co-judge at the 2014 Hobart Quilt Show and solo judge at the 2015 Canberra Quilt Show.

Deborah was Exhibition Secretary from 2010-2013 and has organised many judging days for QuiltNSW. She has particular interest in historic and modern quilts and has judged challenges, local shows and the Modern Quilt Show Australia 2015.

Sandra LyonsSandra Lyons

Sandra has been quilting for over 15 years. Her background is in traditional quiltmaking but has expanded into more contemporary quilting and textile art. She has served QuiltNSW in many capacities including Exhibition Secretary (2000-2003). Her experience on the valuation team (2005-date) has given her strong grounding in assessing workmanship, design and artistic merit.

Brenda Gael SmithBrenda Gael Smith

Brenda is an artist, teacher and author. Her vibrant,contemporary designs are published and exhibited widely. With over 12 years of experience in exhibition administration including Exhibition Secretary (2004-2007), Brenda has judged major quilt shows throughout Australia. She is also the independent curator of a series of touring textile art exhibitions.
